Android Auto not working with VPN

I have a problem with Twingate and Android Auto.
When I try to connect to Android Auto while the vpn connection to Twingate is active, Android Auto errors out saying that the use of a vpn may prevent Android Auto from starting.

I’m on Android 12 btw.

Anyone knows how to get around this?

Hey Tom,

Unfortunately the issue you’re encountering is not a Twingate specific issue, but an Android Auto specific issue.

The AA application will throw that particular error (error 21) if it detects any sort of VPN in use on the device, regardless of whether or not it would actually affect AA traffic, and display the error/refuse to start.

Because Twingate makes use of the VPN framework within Android to facilitate the connections to Twingate resources, it is detected as a VPN and therefore will cause the flag to be raised.

As you have discovered, logging out of Twingate while in your vehicle is currently the only way to resolve the conflict and allow AA to connect wirelessly.

I apologize for the inconvenience.
